Our Story
Established in September 2017, the Yoruba Association of Edmonton (YCAE) was founded thanks to Mrs. Bukola Bankole, who championed the formation of an umbrella association for Yorubas in Edmonton. A dedicated group of individuals, sharing the vision of fostering unity and promoting Yoruba culture within the Edmonton area, responded to the call, which gave birth to the Association.
The inaugural meeting was held on September 9, 2017, and was hosted by Mrs. Rachael Adedijo. This meeting marked the beginning of a journey that would elevate the Yoruba community in Edmonton to new heights of cohesion and heritage preservation.
From its inception, YCAE has embraced inclusivity, welcoming all members regardless of religious beliefs and celebrating the diversity within our 21st-century Yoruba diaspora. We believe that through unity, we amplify our collective strength, creating new opportunities for Yorubas across Canada.
Our association is committed to building an environment where our children can connect with their roots, learn about our rich cultural heritage, and develop a sense of pride in their identity.
We invite everyone to join us in strengthening this association as we work together to create a positive impact not only in Edmonton but across Canada.
About Us
Our Story
Founded in September 2017, the Yoruba Cultural Association of Edmonton (YCAE) was born from the desire of like-minded individuals to unite the Yoruba community in the Edmonton area. Our inaugural meeting was held at the home of Madam Rachael Adedijo, marking the beginning of a journey toward fostering unity, preserving culture, and supporting our members.
Right from the start, it was agreed that the Association will be free from all religious shades as the 21st century Yoruba people are diverse and polytheistic. We believe that by coming together, we can unleash the power in numbers and synergy to advance the lot of individual Yorubas in this land. We also believe that by coming together, Yorubas in the diaspora will be able to maintain our culture as it affords our children the opportunity to interact with the community, thereby gaining knowledge about our motherland. We welcome every member of this Association. It is our desire that together, we shall build a strong cultural association that will be a force to be reckoned with, not only in Edmonton but throughout Canada.
